Around the shop

I've been working on my little handmade shop for about 7 months now. It's been pretty slow going with working full time, having a one year old (how did she get this old already!), maintaining a home, and trying to stay sane while doing it all. Most of my work is done in the early morning, late at night, or during nap time. But it's always something I've dreamed of doing and I'm determined to make it happen. And at least I'm having fun making pretty things while trying!

Here's my current work space. A wooden table nestled in the corner of our living room. Small space living at it's best!

It wasn't until after my daughter was born that I discovered this amazing online community of successful woman that are making their handmade shops and dreams become a reality. They have truly been an inspiration in this process. Creating and making things has always been my passion in life. Growing up I never liked sports and I hated any sort of extra-curricular activity unless it involved art in some form. As a kid, my mom was always sewing like crazy and worked in a fabric shop at night. She had the patience to teach me how to sew and I haven't looked back since. It was always my dream to go to art school, but I never thought I measured up. So I chose the safe option that would lead me to a decent paying job.

So needless to say, having my own shop has fulfilled my little heart to the brim. I can't tell you how happy it makes me knowing that my little creations are being gifted, used, and adored by others out there in the world. Every time someone purchases one of my items, I still shriek with excitement. Just knowing that something I've made with my very own hands is being shipped off to your door makes me one of the happiest people around. So thank YOU for your support.

Currently I'm working on adding some new pouches to the shop. Functional with a pop of color and great for organizing your everyday essentials on the go! I recently made myself a patchwork chambray pouch for our upcoming vacation and I'm obsessed! I'm known for losing everything in my black hole of a purse, so these are absolutely necessary on a daily basis.

My other passion in life is the environment. So making my products eco-friendly and reducing a little waste in the world has always been crucial. Cut back on all those plastic coffee cups and paper mug sleeves by using some of our reusable ones! A perfect combo for your summer iced treat. Although I'm not currently offering the glass tumblers online yet (still figuring out the best shipping options), they are HUGE farmers market favorites. We've even had people run back to our table at closing time to scoop up some more! But plenty of mug sleeves are listed over in the shop now.

Reusable produce bags and tote bags are a great way to limit the amount of plastic you are throwing into a landfill. Just think of all those lovely green bags you are picking up every time you buy produce. And do you really need one more plastic shopping bag? I know I certainly don't!

And coming soon, I'm working on adding some up-cycled items that reuse beautiful materials. Let the thrifting begin!

I'm always dreaming up new ideas for products and color combinations, so stay tuned for whats to come. And thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for all your wonderful support.

Until next time!

Market time again!

Last week we packed up our goods and headed over to the Ashland farmers market for their sustainability day and we had one of our best selling days ever! The weather was gorgeous, the people were friendly, and the feedback from customers was beyond supportive and positive. I even had a few people run back to my booth around closing time to pick up some more goods. Overall a wonderfully successful day that not only re-motivated me, but made me realize that following my dreams isn't so crazy after all! We set up shop with our usual tent, but this time added a nice new handmade sign. A definite plus for getting our name out there! Although some people were wondering where the papayas were...And please ignore Axel who looks so thrilled in the background of every picture. I swear, he really was excited to be there! There was a huge turnout for the market's sustainability day event. All the vendors had a focus on reusable and sustainable products, so our produce ba

Bamboo Cutlery Sets

Friends! It's been a while since I last posted on here, but I am listing some awesome new bamboo cutlery sets tomorrow so I wanted to pop back on and give you a quick sneak peek! This is a product I've been dreaming up for quite some time. When I started my shop a few years back, my goal was to make products that help people move towards a "zero waste" lifestyle. Combing that goal with my love of creating and sewing, I started a small Etsy shop and decided to blog along the way. Admittedly I got a little distracted over the years (pretty fabrics and zipper pouches, what can I say!), so I'm eager to get back on track and bring you more eco-friendly handmade goods. But have no fear, my zipper pouches are not disappearing! I'm certainly not a sustainability expert, but my background is in biology and public health and I love brining that knowledge out here. I'm hoping to share more on what I am doing in my own home to make small, eco-friendly chang

Straw cases are here!

You guys, I am SO excited about these straw cases. I have been dreaming them up for a long time and after numerous requests over the summer, I decided to carve out some time and draft the pattern. I am so pleased to say that they are now listed in my Etsy shop for the holiday season. The best part? They are available in fifteen different colors. Yes! They are available as the case alone or with two 9" handmade stainless steel straws. What a fun way to work towards a zero waste lifestyle. Let's just take a second to talk about these stainless steel straws too. A local MA woman and her team hand make these straws. They are AMAZING. They make cold drinks extra crisp and cold. I say this to everyone, but I don't think you can fully comprehend what I mean until you actually try them out for yourself! Not only do I love supporting another small business, but I love using and sharing a quality product. As a thank you for your support, go ahead and use this code STRAW201
